Republican Persecution of Islam & Muslims

Right-wing groups are always looking for a threat that spreads fear and thus, causes the masses to unite behind a savior party…themselves. Throughout history, this has worked well for the right-wing, they look for a minority that has little or no political clout and then rush in for the kill…literally. Germany and Serbia come to mind immediately.

It is no different for the American right-wing today; the Republican Party, who have found their minority of choice; Muslims.

When Republican Presidential contender Ben Carson made his statements against Muslims and Islam, he was only serving as the voice of the Republican Party, which has nailed its colors on the mast of anti-Muslim hate and fear. He is not alone, there is not s single Republican party contender who does not support a platform that is hostile to Islam and Muslims.

Personally, I don’t care if he is against a possible Muslim president, plenty of people are against having a president who is form one group or another; Muslim, Jews, Atheist, Gay. Black, Hispanic…you name the group and someone will not want them to participate in the leadership of this country. It’s okay, it is their right to stand as they will.

Ben Carson and other Republican (and a number of Democrat) leaders however, are obliged to at least state their reasons for being against a group, accurately instead of fanning the flames of ignorance and bigotry. Let’s take a look at what he stands against. Continue reading

My chat with Al Maghrib’s V-P about FBI

Thanks to help from the local  Al Maghrib folks, I was able to contact Sh. Walid Basyouni, Vice-President of Al Maghrib. We had a fairly thorough talk, but in the end, we did not come to any agreement over the honor Al Maghrib is according to the FBI at Ilmfest in Seattle.
When we first started to talk Mr. Basyouni said he wished I had talked to him before I had sent out the general e-mail about Al Maghrib inviting the FBI to Ilmfest Seattle. I told him I did send an e-mail to Al Maghrib asking for Mr. Basyouni to call me but I received no response so I opened the topic to everyone. My point was that as long as the FBI does not trust or respect Muslims and as long as the FBI considers Muslims to be either targets or a path to targets, we cannot offer them opportunities that make it look as if we trust them and we cannot give them opportunities to influence our youth and our impressionable adults. No doubt any such opportunity will be used to turn Muslims into informants or collaborators against other Muslims whose innocence is only a bump on the road for the FBI.

Khutbas: Sleepy or Awakening?

The day after writing my earlier post, “If I were giving the Khutba (Sermon) today…., I went to participate in a vigil for the Sikhs killed in Wisconsin, held at the South Lake Union Park. I noted with pleasure, that a number of other Muslims were also in attendance and knowing each other, we collected in a small group (we were also slated to speak at the vigil).

One of my friends told me that he had read my Khutba post. I informed him that one Muslim responding to my post said:

  • “This gathering is going to take place not far from Kent Masjid: Ideally this masjid should be more involved but, today our Imam wasted our 25 minutes in trying to prove Continue reading
