Obama’s Speech Against Terrorism

President Obama’s speech was just great today, he spoke resolutely, looking presidential, moral and protective of the USA.

Most Americans would have felt proud that their president was standing up for justice, against Gitmo, against terrorism and unwaveringly for the United States.

That is, until we realize that the man before us is a lawyer and is excellent at selecting words so that most people believe they are hearing what they want to hear. This was a speech where we heard a lot, but most of the sounds were of Obama tap-dancing around real issues, saying he had nothing to do with things that he had everything to do with and we were…ARE…expected to lap it all up as God’s own truth. As Groucho Marx once said, “Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes?” Continue reading

Maybe I am just imagining that the US is targeting Muslims…

Or, why Muslims need to wake up…

A lot of people have told me to “tone it down”,  not sound so “anti-American” and asked me why I hate America so much that I keep criticizing it and if I do hate America so much, why don’t I “go back where I came from”? I have even been accused of supporting and inciting terrorism (but when I consider the source and intelligence of those criticisms, I suppose I shouldn’t mind too much).

Fair enough.

Maybe I AM imagining that the US is geared up to target Muslims and maybe things are not so bad after all.

The again, maybe the Tooth Fairy is leaving gold coins in exchange for teeth these days too.

Let us look objectively and see where the results take us, shall we? Continue reading

Congress Okay’s Indefinite Military “Detention” of Muslims

So, who’s going to vote against the Holy Grail of Defense Appropriations, especially to protect “Muzlems“?

“Defense” has become such an ultra-patriotic issue that nobody dares speak against “Defense” and all sorts of evil is justified behind the screen of “Defense”. Our idiotic “War!”s have morphed into a “Defense” issue where being against the Iraq “War!” and the Afghan “War!” means we are weak on “Defense” and we are against “our boys” who are out there sacrificing their lives to protect us. Nobody dares ask how this protection became necessary or why and why opposing the idiot “War!”s means we hate “our boys in uniform”.

“Defense” has become a racket where millionaire have become billionaires but the appetites are not yet sated.

It is this atmosphere that the latest Defense Appropriations bills came up in the House and in the Senate. I suppose it is fine that they did, after all, once we are in a “War!”, there is little choice but to continue funding the “Defense” forces. This is where “earmarks” slither into the picture. These are supposedly “minor” attachments to the larger bill such that in order to vote against the earmark, one has to vote against the entire bill. In matters of important bills, it is very difficult for a Senator or a Representative to vote against an entire bill, just to take a stand against an earmark.
This must have been the line of thinking when they inserted provisions in the Defense Appropriations Bills (H.R. 1540 and S. 1967), provisions that could almost be overlooked unless one were reading the bill (which most Congress members don’t); sections 1031 and 1032 allow the Administration to imprison (“Detain”) people indefinitely. Murder of Anwar Al-Awlaki; Slaughter of the Constitution

President Barak Obama grandly announced that a CIA drone attack had killed Anwar Al-Awlaki in Yemen along with Samir Khan, the editor of his website. “This is further proof that al Qaeda and its affiliates will have no safe haven anywhere in the world,” Obama said. The Press dutifully reported the announcement, some joined in the celebrations of having gotten another terrorist but nobody questioned the methodology that resulted in ending not one, but TWO American citizens’ lives.

Who cares? We got another one! Someone should care, certainly I do.

They were murdered. Continue reading

US War Criminals, where are they now?

There are many Americans…REAL Americans who are war-criminals but have escaped prosecution because America does not prosecutes its own. Just like the promiscuous woman who is always seen talking about chastity, the US is always seen to be talking about “Freedom”, “Democracy” and “Human Rights”, but is also always seen as the power behind the worst tyrants and despots in the world.

Every war the US has ever been involved in, produced a new cadre of American war-criminals, but none have ever been seriously prosecuted by the US. I say “seriously”, because the worst war crimes trial the US was involved in was the My Lai Massacre trial of Lt. Caley…the ONLY person out of 26, to be convicted…and then served 3.5 years…under house arrest!

The crimes against humanity by the US began with first Iraq war and continued through the sanctions regimen which took over a MILLION lives because the Iraqis could not even get the simple but crucial medicines to save their children and their adults.

Today, we have an entirely new cesspool of scoundrels who should be tried and hanged publicly, for the crimes against humanity, for war crimes and for destroying the most cherished values of what the US stood for Below is just a short list of those criminals who valued the stock prices of their feeder corporations, more than the lives of the dirty “Muzlems” or even more than the lives of the soldiers who were sent “out there” to “defend America”: Continue reading

America Today…Living Hypocrisy

America Today…Living Hypocrisy

The title itself is enough to get the REAL Americans to get their guns and growl at these “Muzlems” who are just itching to destroy “our way of life”; few will start thinking about what it could mean, some will read this essay just so they can dismiss the writer (me) as a crazy who has no idea of what REAL FREEDOM means and the many sacrifices that are necessary to preserve this hard-earned “FREEDOM”.

There is a lot of mythology around what America is and what it stands for. The tragedy is that for a brief period in our history America may have meant all the things we seek to hold dear and all the things we glorify as representing these great United States. But that period of nirvana was far to brief to be recorded properly as representing America; for the past century, we have been living one life, while holding up a different persona to glorify and people have not dared to say that the Empire has no clothes for fear of being condemned as traitors who don’t deserve to enjoy what we serve up to the people.

This is a New Year’s message to my fellow Americans and to America, it is not meant to dredge up past history, the past Century or, what we have been doing with our foreign policy; this message is meant to discuss what is happening NOW, over the past ten years and how America is accelerating towards a totalitarian regime that could remind us of the Soviet Bloc countries. A Constitution Destroyed: John Yoo and the notorious “Torture Memo”

When the CIA asked King George the Worst, if they could use waterboarding on prisoners (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/03/AR2010110308082.html), his response was, “Damn Right!”. When asked why he would authorize torture his response was, “Because the lawyers said it was okay”.

That would be John Yoo who, like Hitler’s many stooges, rushed to find that “robust interrogation” was fine.

We all know there was a memo that justified torture during the reign of King George the Worst, some of us know the author was John Yoo, but very few know details of what the memo said and how it reached its dark conclusions.
Below is a synopsis of his torture memo along with a link where the actual memo can be read in its complete glory. It is most interesting and revealing, to see how torture is rendered to be NOT torture and how torture is justified in spite of Geneva Conventions and other international agreements, by using statement from various Administration officials and giving them the slight additional twist, to make torture, a more acceptable, non-torture and even when there IS the clear, undeniable torture occurring, how Yoo justifies that under cover of exigent situations, “War!” and the Commander-in-Chief’s prerogative (Some of my comments are in parentheses and in blue). Money, Islamophobia and “War!”

Islamophobia is only a new name for a very old and established commodity for control and power…as old as Time itself…FEAR; it is the oldest method for control and also the most lucrative pursuit in history.

We keep children quiet with fear of the Bogeyman; we keep people under control in religion, because of fear of God’s Wrath and Hell; we rise to political power by invoking fear of economic catastrophe, fear of the “other” and fear of being destroyed…while at the same time presenting ourselves as the best savior, so “Remember to vote for me!”.

Fear brings people to power and Fear keeps people in power; Fear is also the shortest way to fame and fortune….FEAR is what galvanizes the opportunists and Fear is what keeps the best amongst us, silent. Continue reading

The “Murderer”, Omar Khadr

CNN reports that “Detainee” (note how we fall for the language framed for us?) is to serve eight more years in prison after pleading guilty as charged. At the trial, the widow of Khadr’s “victim”, Sgt. First Class Christopher Speer, a member of a U.S. Army Special Forces, said “You will always be a murderer“.

Now that justice and the American way of life, have been served, America can sit back and feel good about itself as the paragon of virtues and righteousness it has always been claiming to be.
That includes you and me. Continue reading
